They waited in baited breath anticipation

Then the girl with the teddy bear said to her mother
“I'm gonna run up and jump on his shoulders
Like I used to do when I was 4”
The glances she got were all filled with smiles
And the joy at the terminal was bigger than fear they'd all felt
just weeks ago

There's a layer of snow on the tarmac.
Christmas is going to be white
The plane is arriving at Gate 7 from another time

She waits with her brother for her other brother
Her father and mother they both hug each other
Happy for nights when they'll sleep again
She tells the little girl stranger to stranger
"I bet your bear is happy now that all war is over"
The little girl smiles behind her mother's leg

There's a layer of hope on the tarmac
Like a blanket covered in white
The plane is arriving at Gate 7 from another time

You see the Christians and Muslims with Palestines and Jewish
They got in a room and said "why do we do this?"
I mean seriously folks war isn't fun
They made a contract that said don't kill each other
Got everyone to sign who lived on the planet
It was really long and you had to write really small

There's a layer of peace on the tarmac
Like a world waiting for light
